Bespoke Spotlight ~ Frances & Kevin

Frances first got in touch with me through my website asking about a pair of plain platinum wedding bands, when I saw her beautiful engagement ring though I suggested a hand-carved band that would slot nicely alongside it.

Frances.
Her engagement ring is really lovely and quite unusual (not made by me). It has a central bezel-set sapphire and a textured surrounding that looks a bit like a twig. However a regular flat wedding ring wouldn’t have sat very well alongside it.
Handily she was able to pop into the studio and I was able to mark out the curve of her ring onto some wax, then I carved a quick mock-up of the ring she could try on to see what she thought. In the final design we smoothed out the design into a more gentle curve with one slightly wider side to balance out the asymmetrical design of her engagement ring.

Carving the sample band (on the top of the third image) and the start of the final design. I then smoothed off all the edges and refined the shape.

Kevin.
Frances and Kevin mentioned they are both active people do we decided to keep things simple for Kevin’s ring. He chose a 5mm wide comfort fit band. Comfort fit rings have a slight curve on both the outside and inside edges so it doesn’t feel restrictive on the finger. Platinum is also a lovely looking & hard-wearing metal so it’s a great choice if you use your hands a lot. I’m always surprised by the weight of it!

“Ailsa was absolutely fantastic from start to finish in making our bespoke wedding rings. I have a uniquely shaped engagement ring and was looking for something to fit the style and shape of the ring. Ailsa communicated to us some different options for how to go about this, and was flexible to our needs regarding our budget! Although my fiancé didn’t require anything uniquely shaped, the ring that Ailsa created for him was absolutely perfect and exactly what he had hoped for.

I cannot recommend Ailsa highly enough - her work is fantastic! I even left with some earrings and a necklace for my bridesmaids!”
